Longwe's Empowerment Ladder
Longwe’s empowerment ladder can be used to analyze the mode and modalities in which organizations are supporting women’s empowerment in five key areas:
- Control — Women’s control over the decision making process.
- Participation — Women's equal participation in the decision-making process, in policy-making, planning, and administration.
- Conscientisation — Knowledge that results in a mindset shift about gender equality
- Access — Women's access to the factors of production on an equal basis with men; equal access to land, labour, credit, training, marketing facilities, and all public services and benefits.
- Welfare — Women's material welfare, relative to men. This includes access to practical resources such as food supply, income and, medical care
