Paternity Leave

Why are we targeting paternity leave when women still often lack access to paid maternity leave and childcare? Put simply, paternity leave is a feminist issue. For men to have the ability to share fully in the care work at home, we need them to have equal access to parental leave. The annual report published by McKinsey and Company and LeanIn.org found that in the time of COVID-19, more than one in four women are considering downshifting their careers or exiting the workforce altogether. This elevates the importance of men taking on more caregiving responsibilities and workplaces being more accepting of men as primary caregivers.
